How this works: the registry publishes a zone file once a day listing every domain with nameservers. We compare each day's file with the previous one; a name that disappears has almost always been deleted and enters a 30-day redemption period, followed by five days of pending delete, after which it is released. We confirm every name with the registry's RDAP service before it is listed as a drop. After the drop a name is released or registered again: the day's batch is seen go on a sample of the registry's names, and a caught name shows up in the next day's zone file.

Good to know

Which names are searched?

Names the registry has marked pending delete (due today or later), names in redemption, and names released in the last 30 days. Registered names are not: what we know of those comes from the registries' zone files, which are not ours to hand out.

What is a letter pattern?

A shape for the name before the dot: C is a consonant, V a vowel, L any letter, N a digit. CVCV finds names like bano and lumi; LLLN finds abc1. Lowercase letters stand for themselves, so goVV finds goai or goea.

Where do Rank and Linking Domains come from?

From Common Crawl's web graph, as on the lists: how many other domains link to the name, and Rank, a score from 0 to 10 for its place among all the domains it knows (how to read it). A dash means Common Crawl has not met the name.
